Our fully qualified nurses run a range of pet health clinics to help keep your pet happy & healthy. Some of our nursing clinics are for monitoring some health conditions.

Nursing clinics we provide at AllPets Vets:

6-month Health Checks

Did you know that one dog year equates to roughly 7 human years, and one cat year is roughly 4 human years? Our pets age more quickly than we do so we recommend a health check at least every 6 months. As well as a general pet care discussion, a 10-point health check with one of our registered veterinary nurses covers eyes, teeth and gums, ears, skin and coat, mobility, heart, lungs, lumps and bumps, weight and nutrition. These are available for rabbits and guinea pigs too.

8+ Wellness Clinic

We offer screening clinics for dogs and cats aged 8 and over. These involve a general health discussion, a 10-point health check (as above), screening tests including bloods, urine and blood pressure, including tailored advice for your pet all in a 30-minute extended consultation with a veterinary nurse. Identifying early signs of underlying disease will help your pets live longer, happier and healthier lives.

Routine maintenance clinics

Our veterinary nurses can clip claws, empty anal glands, clean ears and perform basic grooming including removal of matts (when sedation is not required). They are happy to demonstrate how to administer medications to your pet and help with any queries around pet care at home.

New Pet Registration Clinics

Get your new pet registered and weighed. Receive advice on nutrition, parasites, socialisation, and more. Ask us about our Pet Health Plans too.

Post-operative checks

Your pet may visit our nurses for check-ups following surgery or they can offer phone call reviews after routine procedures. Nurses will remove stitches and staples from your pet’s surgical wound.

Confidence Clinics

Lauren and Lyndsay lead our confidence clinics to help dogs who are fearful or anxious about coming to the vets and give them a more positive experience. Each session is tailored to the individual dog and Lauren and Lyndsay will find what motivates them, such as their favourite treats or toys to come too to help with interactions. The aim is to build a bond with the dogs and work up to a full clinical exam. We will start with desensitisation work to the car park, waiting room and consult room as well as staff so they are more comfortable should they ever need to be hospitalised.

Behavioural first aid

Lauren and Joy can provide first aid behavioural advice for dogs and cats respectively. If you have questions about their behaviour, get in touch, and if our team can’t help they will be able to discuss referral to an accredited behaviourist if warranted.

Medical Clinics

Our nurses are perfectly placed to help if your pet has a chronic medical condition. They offer many consultations in this area, including:

Diabetes – from injection demonstrations and monitoring blood sugar levels to supporting you with changes at home, we provide thorough support for you and your diabetic pets
Hyperthyroidism – your cat will have their own dedicated nurse to monitor their clinical signs, blood pressure and thyroid levels throughout this potentially lifelong condition
Osteoarthritis – your pet might receive monthly injections or laser therapy, but our nurses promote a holistic approach to OA, looking at maintaining a healthy bodyweight, making adaptations to support your pet at home and
Dermatology – our nurses can administer monthly injections, advise on nutrition, nutraceuticals and skin care products in a formulation to suit you and your pet such as shampoos, foams or wipes

Pet Fit Club

Keeping your pet at a healthy bodyweight can help them live up to two years longer! Our veterinary nurses can tailor an action plan for you and your pet to help them feel their best. They will advise on appropriate nutrition, how to use treats whilst on a weight loss plan, feeding methods and exercise. The team achieve great results through regular consultations and support. Fit Club is available mainly for dogs and cats, but we can see rabbits too.

Nutrition Clinics

Bring any questions about diet, nutrition and feeding your pet to our veterinary nurses, particular Joy who has an interest in nutrition.

Dental Clinics

Find out more about routine dental home care with our nurses, who can also offer a teeth cleaning demonstration. Your pet might be booked a dental check-up following dental surgery and our nurses can assess their progress.

Class IV Therapeutic Laser Clinic

Laser therapy can help to reduce pain and inflammation and stimulate cell repair. It’s used to treat mobility problems, arthritis, wounds, and other conditions.

Wound care

Traumatic and surgical wounds sometimes require frequent dressing changes, which our veterinary nurses are ideally placed to assist with. They work together with our vets to promote optimal wound healing.

Sampling and tests

Your pet may be referred to our nurse clinics for sampling and tests, including:

Blood pressure measurements are used for diagnosing and monitoring certain conditions. Our veterinary nurses spend time settling your pet in and keeping them as calm as possible. Blood pressure monitoring involves placing a cuff on your pet’s limb or tail and is usually very well tolerated.
Blood sampling
Tissue sampling, such as taking a fine needle aspirate sample from a lump
Skin and ear sampling to look for parasites, bacteria, yeasts etc.

End-of-life

You are welcome to speak to our nursing team, either in person, over the phone or by email about end-of-life care for your pet. Discussing how it happens and making the necessary decisions ahead of time will mean you can focus purely on your pet when their final day comes. Our veterinary nurses can discuss any worries or concerns you might have about any stage of the process; we are here to support and assist you.
